The meeting of two cultures, hosted by Sutherland Shire Council In partnership with La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council, Gujaga Foundation and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service., commemorates the arrival of HMB Endeavour and the first contact made with the Gweagal community.

About the event

On Tuesday 29 April, Sutherland Shire Council hosts "Meeting of Two Cultures" where the Endeavour ship and crew made first contact with the Gweagal community, who lived in the Kamay area at the time of Cook’s landing in 1770 and for thousands of years prior.


Sutherland Shire Reconciliation will host a table at the commemorative event, offering information about our community efforts towards understanding and reconciliation. This day of connection includes:


  • Free National Park entry

  • Official proceedings

  • Free cultural workshops

  • Free BBQ & Coffee
