Dr Paul Irish talk: cultural heritage of coastal Sydney

Paul Irish is a Sydney-based historian, archaeologist, and the director of the consultancy Coast History and Heritage, specialising in the Aboriginal history and cultural heritage of coastal Sydney.

His PhD, now published and in Sutherland Library, pieced together a truly fascinating narrative about the Aboriginal history of coastal Sydney with researchers from the La Perouse Aboriginal community. It covers a very under-documented period of Sydney’s Aboriginal history. As an example, in 1870 the Georges River mob were still there and using coastal steamers to visit and meet up with others along this coastal stretch.

Paul has contributed to the Dictionary of Sydney and City of Sydney Barani Websites.
