About the event

Hazelhurst and Numbulwar Numburindi Arts present this workshop as part of Sydney Craft Week. Join for a hands-on weaving circle workshop, led by master weavers from the remote community of Numbulwar in South East Arnhem Land.

$80.00 per person, booking is essential here.

Learn traditional techniques passed down through generations and about Maguj (pandanus) and Nanja (repurposed ghost nets) collected from the Numbulwar shores.

These workshops are held in connection with the exhibition Nanja: Stories Rewoven at Hazelhurst Arts Centre featuring yir (dilly bags) and Lharagula Ngididin (crocodile trap) - woven forms that speak to survival, protection, and deep ancestral knowledge.

Once a deadly threat to marine life, ghost nets are reclaimed by our artists and transformed into vessels of story and strength. Each piece reflects care for Country and the resilience of culture. As you weave, you'll be part of a living practice that connects people, place, and purpose.
