Sorry Day Sunrise Vigil

On Sunday 26 May, 2025, our Sorry Day Sunrise Vigil brought the community together in a powerful act of remembrance and solidarity at Silver Beach, Kurnell.

Graham Avery led a moving smoking ceremony, followed by heartfelt reflections from both Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants. Speakers shared what it means to be an ally to Indigenous Australians and acknowledged the ongoing impact of intergenerational trauma from the Stolen Generations

National Sorry Day, officially the National Day of Healing, coincides with the release of the "Bringing Them Home" report released on the 26th of May 1997. We encourage you to visit the Healing Foundation to learn more about the healing of our nation. To read the report please visit Human Rights Bringing Them Home Report.

Sutherland Shire Reconciliation acknowledges the Dharawal language speaking people of the Gweagal and Norongerragal clans, as the traditional custodians of the lands within the Sutherland Shire. We are grateful for their immemorial care of the lands and waterways on which we live and work.
