This week, SSR hosted dedicated members at our Annual General Meeting at a venue of long-term supporters, Tradies, in Gymea.

Locals demonstrated their solidarity with our organisation and shared their super powers as allies for reconciliation in the community

Larrakia woman and SSR chair, Sonja Scherer, as well as Dtharawal commitee member, Mark Rice shared a beautiful Welcome to Country respecting Uncle Les Bursill.

It was a privilege to hear Mark share his profound ancestral connection with

Dtharawal, Darug, Ngarigo, and Yuin country and his dedication to re-recording and digitising existing teaching sites.

Sonja shared a review of 2025 and our vision for 2026.  You can read the 2025 Annual report here and our 2026 Strategy here.

As returning officer, Kim Bulkeley announced the 2026 elected committee, pictured below from L-R: Sally Stockbridge, Melinda Millen, Sonja Scherer (Chair), Damien Carter, Mark Rice,

Sutherland Shire Reconciliation acknowledges the Dharawal language speaking people of the Gweagal and Norongerragal clans, as the traditional custodians of the lands within the Sutherland Shire. We are grateful for their immemorial care of the lands and waterways on which we live and work.

'Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander’, ‘First Nations,’ ‘Aboriginal‘ and ‘Indigenous’ are used interchangeably on this website to refer to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia, their arts and their cultures.
